Professor Rebecca Lingwood
Professor of Fluid DynamicsResearch Overview
I am a theoretical and experimental fluid dynamicist, specialising in laminar-turbulent transition of complex flows. My research focuses on boundary-layer instabilities (particularly the distinctions between convective and absolute instabilities) that can be controlled to manipulate transition to turbulence to benefit many industrial applications. Since 2007, my research has been primarily based at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH, Sweden, where I am an Affiliated Professor.I am a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society. I am a Visiting Professor at the New Model Institute for Technology & Engineering (NMITE), and I have conducted numerous strategic reviews for universities in the UK, Norway and Sweden. I am a Trustee of the Daphne Jackson Trust, which helps people to return to research after a career break.
