Research Overview

The UK has a long history of welcoming internationally educated nurses (IENs) to bolster the healthcare workforce. Some IENs transition from clinical practice to nursing academia. Whilst the transitioning experiences of IENs in the healthcare workforce have been widely researched, there is a gap in our understanding of the lived experiences of IENs who transition into nursing academia in the UK. My PhD study adopts Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) underpinned by Intersectionality Theory to explore the lived experiences of IENs as nurse academics in the UK. It is hoped that this study will provide nursing HE leaders useful insights for practical action to ensure that IENs are well supported to thrive in academia.
