This introductory workshop is designed to help postgraduates, researchers and others involved in modest amounts of demonstrating or seminar teaching to address some of the basic skills and understanding they will need for their work. It assumes that participants have little or no previous teaching experience and that you will be engaged in some teaching in academic year 2024/25.
Support for associate teachers, in particular postgraduates and researchers who teach, is provided through the Introduction to Teaching for Lancaster workshops and the Advance HE (formerly Higher Education Academy) accredited Associate Teacher Programme (ATP)
You are also encouraged to take advantage of any of the Curriculum and Educational Development opportunities, intended for all those at Lancaster involved in teaching and supporting students learning.
The workshop will cover:
- an introduction to learning and teaching in HE
- issues surrounding marking
- teaching small groups or encouraging learning in workshops and laboratories (depending upon the participant’s teaching role)
- support for students and teaching locally and nationally
The Introduction to Teaching for Lancaster (ITL) workshop can either be taken as a stand-alone workshop or as the pre-requisite for participating in the Associate Teacher Programme (ATP). If you would like to apply for the Associate Teacher Programme (ATP) the date of your ITL workshop must be completed before you attend the ATP Induction - Tools for Reflective Practice workshop. We strongly recommend that you apply for ATP as soon as possible, even if your teaching hours have yet to be confirmed, as places on this programme are in high demand.
