Save the Children UK prides itself on taking a comprehensive, 4-nations approach to any work we do. Before starting CUIDAR’s workshops, we wanted to ensure the unique perspectives of children were heard in every part of the UK. Children in the South of Glasgow will have as much chance to be heard as children from Kent in the South of England, though their perspectives and experiences might be completely different. In total, we are running nine workshops around the UK in the later part of 2016 and early 2017 (1 in Northern Ireland, 2 in Wales, 1 in Glasgow, 1 in Edinburgh, 2 in the South of England and 2 in the North of England). These workshops are engaging, interactive and thought-provoking. But most of all, they’re centred on children’s active participation.
Eight of our workshops will be taking place within a school and the participants will be between 9 to 12 years of age. However, one of these workshops (where we’ve just finished working) took place in a youth centre setting. Below, we highlight the group and give a flavour of their workshops where gathering children’s unique opinions and building their knowledge were key.
