Following the Chinese Day delivered by Chinese teachers from Lancaster University Confucius Institute in September where students found their interest in Chinese language and culture, a new Chinese language and culture after-school club was established at Bay Leadership Academy. The club has been delivered at the school every Wednesday throughout the Autumn term for years 7 and 8 pupils by Chinese teacher Li Ying and a PhD student from Lancaster University as a teaching assistant.

In the club, pupils have been enjoying learning another language and exploring the culture and art of China. The club also gives pupils the opportunity to communicate and share thoughts with a global perspective and gain sense of fulfilment by obtaining new knowledge through language practice, crafts and games.

‘‘They are both brilliant, the pupils really engage’’. -Teacher Emma from Bay Leadership Academy

‘‘My sister looks forward to seeing the crafts I make every Wednesday and my mum framed the ink panda I drew! ’’ -A Student from Bay Leadership Academy

We are very pleased that the club will continue in the spring term as well as a Chinese day for year 7 pupils to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
