Lancaster University Confucius Institute’s contribution to Light Up Lancaster 2023

From Thursday 2nd to Friday 4th November 2023, the evenings were filled with light installations across Lancaster city centre.
The Storey was a big attraction amongst visitors. In the gallery featured a Chinese ink painting instillation ‘Immensity of the Cosmos’ by Zi Quan, a PhD researcher from the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) and supported by Lancaster University Confucius Institute.
Zi combined light with her artwork using silk paper and Chinese ink to create her installation based on the early Chinese cosmology and dimensions of space and time.
In Sun Square, Lancaster University Confucius Institute teacher, Leo Zhenglang Chen, performed ‘Dancing around the sun’ with Ludus Dance.
‘I am so glad to be performing for Light Up Lancaster again, this is my second time working with Ludus Dance, I would like to thank them for offering me an emerging dance role. I am the only Chinese, and the only Asian in this performance team, so when I am doing this performance, I tried to use this opportunity to show Chinese culture to more people. I tried my best, and I did it, it's a wonderful experience for me.’ – Leo Zhenglang Chen
Many local people came to view the array of installations across the city.
Congratulations Zi and Leo!
Lancaster University Confucius Institute would like to thank the Light Up Lancaster team for organising such a wonderful event for the community and allowing us to be a part of it.
