Chen Xiao, Nora Jian, Sammy Hau, Colette Webb, Professor Mei Yang and Mr Dow with some pupils from Anchorsholme Academy.

On Thursday 16th March, Lancaster University Confucius Institute Co-Director, Professor Mei Yang, and Manager, Colette Webb, visited one of Lancaster University Confucius Institute’s teaching sites: Anchorsholme Academy in Blackpool.

At Anchorsholme Academy, Mandarin is taught as part of the curriculum with local teacher, Sammy Hau, and Confucius Institute Chinese teachers, Xiao Chen and Nora Jian, based at the school. The pupils are currently preparing for their upcoming Youth Chinese Tests (YCT).

Professor Yang and Colette observed a year 3 Mandarin class. The pupils practiced greetings, numbers and the words for dragon in Chinese.

The class teachers at Anchorsholme Academy also participate in the Mandarin classes with the children, each having their own workbook.

Thank you, Mr Dow and Mrs Walch, for having us.

We would like to wish the pupils good luck with their Youth Chinese Tests this weekend!
