Lancaster University Confucius Institute staff training day and Vice-Chancellor visit


Lancaster University Confucius Institute staff stood with Vice-Chancellor Andy Schofield outside The Roundhouse.

On Wednesday 25th October 2023, staff from Lancaster University Confucius Institute’s teaching sites - Anchorsholme Academy, Hawes Side Academy and Lancaster University came together for a training day in The Roundhouse, Lancaster University.

In the morning, Lancaster University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Schofield, came to The Confucius Institute to meet the team and thanked the department for their positive contributions to Chinese language education and cultural exchanges, helping Lancaster to be a global university. Vice-Chancellor Andy Schofield and the Lancaster University Confucius Institute leadership team also discussed their work on Chinese students’ well-being.

In the afternoon, Officer Lindsey Brown from the Lancaster Police came to The Roundhouse to give a presentation on how to help people feel safe and secure in the Lancashire area, and what to do in situations if you do not feel safe. The presentation helped to reassure the team of what to do if they encounter an incident.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute UK Director, Professor Jinghan Zeng, gave a speech regarding the achievements and contributions made by the teachers and introduced the future work plan.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute China Director, Professor Mei Yang, organised for each teaching team to give a presentation on their area of work to promote exchange and sharing of knowledge among the team.

Teachers from Anchorsholme Academy, Hawes Side Academy, Lancaster University Chinese undergraduate degree team, Lancaster University outreach team and the co-ordinator of Lancaster University extra-curricular classes each gave a strong presentation on all of the great work that they do for Chinese language teaching and a variety of Chinese cultural activities for a range of people.

The day was a fantastic opportunity for sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues, and bringing the team together to celebrate and appreciate all of the hard work that the Lancaster University Confucius Institute staff do.

The day ended with the team preparing and enjoying a Chinese hotpot together in the Roundhouse kitchen.
