Lancaster Chinese Friendship Programme trip to Liverpool Chinatown

On Saturday 3rd June, Lancaster University students studying Chinese and their language partners visited Liverpool, accompanied by Lancaster University Confucius Institute staff.

For some of the students, this was their first time visiting Liverpool.

The tour guide, Anna, from Liverpool Confucius Institute led the group on a walking tour around Liverpool to teach the students about Liverpool’s history, and its connections with China and the Chinese community.

The students then visited an authentic Chinese restaurant in Chinatown where they had the opportunity to practice their Chinese language by ordering food and using chopsticks to eat a wide variety of Chinese cuisine.

The trip finished with some free time for the students to walk around and explore Chinatown.

The Lancaster Chinese Friendship Programme began at the start of the 2022-23 academic year to allow students studying Chinese the opportunity to practice in real-life situations. Each student has been paired with a native Chinese speaker. By doing this, it not only gives the students a chance to practice their language skills and learn about each other’s cultures, but also an opportunity to make a new friend.
