On Friday 15 November 2024, Lancaster University Confucius Institute took part in the International Students Re-Freshers Fair, hosted by Lancaster University Student Union.

The event provided a platform to introduce attendees to the rich and fascinating world of Chinese culture through a variety of interactive activities.

One of the highlights of the day was a Chinese calligraphy session, where participants were invited to try their hand at writing simple Chinese characters such as "木" (wood), "三" (three), and "王" (king) using traditional brushes and ink. The attendees were captivated by the flexibility of the brush strokes and the unique beauty of Chinese calligraphy, which has a long history and artistic significance.

In addition to calligraphy, the Confucius Institute offered a hands-on experience in traditional Chinese paper cutting. Participants were encouraged to create the Chinese character "福" (luck or good fortune), a symbol often displayed on doors or windows during the Spring Festival to invite happiness and prosperity into the home. The Institute aimed to share this auspicious tradition with attendees, wishing them good fortune and success.

The event proved to be a great success, attracting more than 30 participants who enjoyed engaging with Chinese culture in a fun and creative way.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute continues to strive to offer exciting and educational activities that highlight the charm of Chinese culture, fostering greater interest in China and its rich traditions among students and the broader community.
