Lancaster University shines as Finalist in two categories at the 2024 Green Gown Awards

2024 Finalist in the Green Gown Awards

Lancaster University has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by being named a finalist in two categories at the prestigious 2024 Green Gown Awards. This recognition highlights the University’s innovative and impactful initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and engaging the community.

Following last year’s success at winning the 2023 Green Gown Award for the Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund in the Money for Good category, the two categories we have been selected as finalists this year, are:

Benefitting Society

ReStore Lancaster has been selected as a finalist in the Benefitting Society category. This category looks for innovative new approaches to bringing positive benefits and captures the powerful and innovative ways education institutions are realising their purpose in today’s society to benefit the lives of individuals, communities and wider society.

Creating Impact

The student bike hire scheme has been named as a finalist in the Creating Impact category. This category recognises institutions that have achieved significant sustainability-related outcomes, on-campus or within their community, using minimal and/or limited resources.

The 2024 Green Gown Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 13 at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. Regardless of the outcome, Lancaster University’s achievements in sustainability are already a cause for celebration and a source of inspiration for other institutions. Head of Sustainability, Dr Georgiana Allison said:, “To be selected as a finalist in the Green Gown Awards is a significant achievement, and I am immensely proud of the positive change we are creating together. This shows the commitment of students, staff and partners in fostering a collaborative and more sustainable future.”
