How using the University's Careers and Employability Service boosted my confidence.
Posted on

As a student in my final year, there is increasing pressure to consider future career prospects and the direction I want to pursue post-University. Balancing job applications with academic commitments was a challenge I anticipated and knew I would struggle with, however the University's Careers Service has significantly boosted my confidence going forward.
One particularly helpful service for me is the daily/weekly jobs and events alert. Tailored to my degree area, these notifications provide a comprehensive overview of current employment opportunities, offering inspiration for potential career paths, many of which were previously unknown to me.
The Careers team's commitment is further evident in their convenient drop-in sessions every weekday from 2-4 pm. This flexible scheduling has been particularly beneficial for someone like me with a busy timetable, allowing me to quickly seek advice from the experienced career advisors. During these sessions I shared my past experiences and personal interests leading to insightful discussions about my career prospects. The advisors not only highlighted potential job opportunities but also introduced me to pathways and industries I had never considered before. Their personalised approach and thorough understanding of my aspirations have made the Careers Service an indispensable resource in my academic journey at Lancaster.
The CareersConnect site provides further resources catering to individuals at any stage of their career planning. Exploring this page is something I highly recommend as it showcases the breadth of support the careers team provides. The careers service at Lancaster is essential for broadening your career possibilities and optimising your academic experiences ensuring you get the most value from your time at the university. So it’s really worth talking to one of the advisors or looking online to see how the careers service can help you!
