Join The Ruskin and Barb Studio to create a beautiful table arrangement using seasonal Spring flowers, and learn key floristry skills that you can use time and time again at home. The workshop takes place in the inspiring setting of Lancaster Castle.
Barb is a floral design studio based in Manchester and founded by Leanne V. Cook. Natural materials are explored as an art form and inspiration is drawn from natural environments to create free-flowing, unstructured floral designs.
Over the last six years, Leanne has developed a floristry practice which celebrates the wealth of flora grown in the UK. Leanne is inspired by collected objects, landscapes and flowers from her past. She says, ‘At Barb, our flowers are about more than just the stems themselves, they are a play with form, texture, colour and feel, designed to create a quiet, contemplative moment’.
This workshop is inspired by flowers that feature in the Ruskin Whitehouse Collection. Participants are asked to bring a vase of their choice, which we will fill with seasonal spring flowers sourced from in and around Lancashire wherever possible. Leanne will guide attendees through the basics of preparing and conditioning flowers, selecting blooms and identifying complimentary colours and textures to create a spring vase arrangement. We will use the form and shape of your vase to create a purposefully wild and garden-inspired arrangement to suit your vessel. We will focus on building key floristry skills that you can use time and time again with any flowers.
Bring your own vase - vases should be big enough to hold a large bouquet. Every attendee will leave with an arrangement of seasonal spring blooms in their own vase.
This is part of The Ruskin’s Spring programme of workshops at the Castle. Learn from contemporary artists and makers and get to know the Ruskin Whitehouse Collection, in a creative and sociable environment. All workshops are suitable for beginners (16+).
