Standing Academic Committee
The Standing Academic Committee (SAC) is a University panel that considers complex student cases that cannot be resolved through standard academic processes. This includes:
- Poor academic progress
- Repeated failure to engage with studies
- Serious or repeated academic misconduct
SAC ensures these cases are reviewed fairly and consistently in accordance with University regulations set out in the Manual of Academic Regulations and Procedures (MARP).
Students referred to SAC are usually invited to a hearing and have the right to be accompanied by a Students’ Union advisor, college advisor, or another support person. At the hearing, the student is given the opportunity to explain their situation and submit any additional evidence, including personal or medical circumstances that may not have been previously known.
Each case is considered individually, with outcomes ranging from continued study (with or without conditions) to suspension or exclusion.

SAC is not an appeals body, but students who disagree with the outcome may request a review through the Student Appeals process.
