环境可持续性是中国崛起所面临的主要挑战,且随着中国的崛起,这也是世界所面临的主要挑战。快速工业化带来了大规模的环境恶化,环境恶化又影响到中国人口以及区域气候和全球气候。空气污染、水污染和土壤污染正在成为中国的主要健康危害,造成大规模人口迁移并对工业产生负面影响。环境污染已成为国内不满情绪的主要来源,同时也对一党制国家的持续发展构成了威胁。与此同时,许多人现在都将中国视为全球环保协议的潜在领导者,中国政府正在大力投资,以寻找更加可持续的能源消费和能源安全的解决方案。
