2024 ECOChallenge Final! And the winner is...

The ECOChallenge Trophy

After 6 weeks of hard work, drawing on support from their team mentors and the Work in Progress team, students pitched their ideas to a panel of prestigious judges at the ECOChallenge Final.

Ideas for this year’s ECOChallenge focused on tackling issues of waste here at Lancaster University.

After much deliberation, the judging panel of Alison Stowell, Darren Wilkinson, Harrison Stewart, Simon Harrison and Jaya Patel announced that taking home the ECOChallenge Trophy and winning a share of £500 would be Lonsdale College for their idea LonsDRY – an air-drying clothing facility which minimises the use of tumble dryers at Lancaster University.

In second place was the joint Furness and Fylde College team for their idea ECORewards - a scheme that rewards students for recycling.

Phoebe Teasdale, 1st year History and Politics student, and part of the Graduate and Pendle team said: ‘I had a really great time doing the ECOChallenge. I got to network with some amazing people, learn a lot about the environmental problems facing society and also immerse myself into a team. It is a truly incredible experience that I highly recommend.’

If you missed the final, do not fear! LA1 TV live streamed the final which you can watch back here.

Green Lancaster’s ECOChallenge is delivered in partnership with Work in Progress and the 9 colleges. We sincerely thank all those involved who helped to deliver the competition.
