The Staff Car Share Permit benefit is no longer available due to the introduction of agile working amongst most staff who previously used this permit. Therefore, there are much more limited opportunities for staff to share car journeys to campus most days throughout the year as they used to. Car sharing is still encouraged when possible, however, as this will reduce carbon emissions and save money on fuel costs.
Yes, provided the permit sharing staff members are eligible for the permit. Please also note that the permit will only be valid for use in the specific vehicles registered to that particular parking permit. Up to 3 vehicles per permit can be added.
Staff parking permit rates are based on price bands linked to pay grade and FTE level. The person applying for the parking permit must be at the higher grade band / FTE level of the colleagues that will be sharing the permit. The person applying for the permit will be fully responsible for its use and payment and acts as the ‘permit holder’.
Through flexible benefits, the staff member making the permit application will have their salary deducted monthly for the parking permit based upon their individual pay grade and FTE level as of 1st October 2023.
Any arrangement to then share the cost of the permit would need to be made informally between colleagues.
Important notice:
In the event of colleagues who are sharing a permit who bring more than one vehicle onto campus on the same day, the vehicle that is not displaying the parking permit must instead either clearly display a valid pay & display ticket, scratch card or use the RingGo pay by phone visitor parking service. You will not be able to contact Security to advise you are on campus with your registered vehicle but are not displaying the permit as this will not be accepted.
No, all scratch cards are strictly non-transferable and cannot be shared or used with another person or another vehicle. Doing so will invalidate the scratch card for use.
