Lancaster University Confucius Institute

We aim to share an understanding of China and Mandarin Chinese to the North West. We offer Mandarin language classes and a variety of cultural classes to students and staff, the local community, local schools and businesses.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute’s involvement in Lancaster Music Festival 2024

Lancaster University Confucius Institute (LUCI) is thrilled to have contributed to the Lancaster Music Festival 2024 which took place from 10 to 13 October 2024. LUCI sponsored a programme of Chinese music performances, from both renowned and local musicians, along with BBC Musical Storyland Live from Lancaster Library, Chinese drum workshops, Chinese music masterclasses and craft activities for local people to participate in.

Light Up Lancaster Explore Week

On Thursday 24 October 2024, Dr Jocelin Lingxia Zhou led some Chinese character activities with colleagues from Lancaster University Confucius Institute for local families as part of Light Up Lancaster Explore Week in The Storey. The activities showed the evolution of Chinese characters from the traditional oracle bones structures to the present day Chinese simplified characters.

International Careers Fair 2024

On Friday 18 October 2024, Lancaster University Confucius Institute hosted its well-known International Careers Fair in collaboration with the Lancaster University Management School Careers Team, with over 200 students in attendance alongside featured representatives from 18 leading global companies.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute welcomes 37 children to the Chinese Language and Culture Summer School

From 29 July to 9 August 2024, Lancaster University Confucius Institute welcomed 37 children aged between 6-11 years old to the Chinese Language and Culture Summer School at Lancaster University.

Chinese Language and Culture Day at Ermysted’s Grammar School

On 11 July 2024, Lancaster University Confucius Institute delivered Chinese language and culture taster sessions to Ermysted’s Grammar School, which saw more than 90 Year 9 students attending the event.

Mandarin Excellence Programme Day at Lancaster University

On Wednesday 26 June 2024, Calday Grange Grammar School and St John Plessington Catholic College, both participants in the Mandarin Excellence Programme, brought Year 10 students to visit Lancaster University. The group was led by Dr Wei Gan and Dr Lili Yang, and overseen by Michelle Tate, teacher training coordinator at the Centre for Chinese Language Education at the Institute of Education, University College London (UCL IOE).
