106 Gain and phase

so the gain is

Γ(ω)=|T(iω)|=1(1-aω2)2+b2ω2;

while the phase ϕ(ω) satisfies

tanϕ=bωω2a-1,ϕ=tan-1bωω2a-1

which has sign depending on the value of ω. Note that

ϕ(ω)=arg(1-aω2-ibω)

and so T(0)=1, hence ϕ(0)=0; while T(iω) is in the third quadrant as ω, whereas T(iω) is in the second quadrant as ω-; at 1-aω2=0, T(iω) is on the imaginary axis so ϕ(±1/a)=π/2.
