2.5 Assessing the fit of a distribution

Many processes can be well approximated by the parametric distributions. We have already seen two good examples of a Normal distribution fit: SAT scores and the heights of UK adult males. While using a parametric model can be extremely convenient and helpful, it is important to remember any model is always an approximation. Testing the appropriateness of any assumption is a key step in many data analyses.
