5.13 Remarks on rules for combining integrals

(i) is the addition rule, that areas add up; and

(ii) is the scalar multiplication rule, that scaling the height by a factor of AA scales the area by a factor of AA.

(iii) shows that the sign of the integral changes when we reverse the limits; this is important in changes of variable.

Cancelling limits

(iv) shows that the intermediate point bb cancels when it appears as an upper and then a lower limit of integration.
