Example

The derivative of the log function is ddxlogx=1/x{{d}\over{dx}}\log x=1/x for x>0x>0.

Solution. From y=logxy=\log x, we let x=eyx=e^{y}; then

dydx=1/dxdy=1/ey=1/x{{dy}\over{dx}}=1/{{dx}\over{dy}}=1/e^{y}=1/x

for x>0.x>0.
