A Lancaster University graduate has received an Alumni Award at this December’s graduation for his outstanding achievements.
Amaro Luiz De Oliveira Gomes

Amaro Gomes joined the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) in 2009, having previously served as head of the financial system regulation department of the Central Bank of Brazil.
He was reappointed to serve a second term on the IASB Board in 2014.
In effect, Amaro is one of the 14 people (IASB members) who decide on financial reporting standards for 140 jurisdictions around the world.
A champion for international regulatory cooperation throughout his career, he played a leading part in the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards in Brazil.
He was responsible for drafting regulatory proposals on such matters as Basel II implementation, money laundering, accounting and auditing, microfinance, and prudential requirements.
