Welcome to the site! Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive (CMDA) builds on ‘Cinema Culture in 1930s Britain’ (CCINTB), a pioneering nationwide inquiry into cinemagoing and everyday life in the interwar years that was conducted during the 1990s and early 2000s. The project has made data from the original investigation widely accessible and is extending its findings through comparative and interdisciplinary inquiries into the nature of cinema memory as a distinct variant of cultural memory, drawing on and developing a range of digital tools.

Further details on the background of CMDA and its aims can be found on the ‘About‘ page.
