The Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion is home to a vibrant intellectual community of graduates, undergraduates and world-leading academics. We offer a wide range of programmes in Politics, International Relations, Philosophy, PPE, and the study of Global Religions.

Welcome Message

The Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion at Lancaster University brings together the diverse perspectives of nearly 45 academics, 600 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. Together, we seek to explore ideas and shape the real world. We prize disciplinary expertise and rigorous study, as well as the interdisciplinary approaches which will shape the future.

Undergraduate Study

Our programmes train students in the latest advances in their disciplines – as well as equipping them with skills of communication, adaptability, and problem solving that prepare them for diverse careers in the public and private sectors. Postgraduate Study

We offer a dynamic range of postgraduate programmes in Public Policy, International Relations and Security, Diplomacy, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Our graduate students play a full part in our intellectual community, with opportunities to engage with students and staff in seminars and colloquia throughout the year. Through our programmes, students develop their disciplinary and interdisciplinary expertise, as well as skills and networks that can boost their career. We offer Full Time and Part Time modes of learning, as well several Distance Learning programmes.

Research

The Department is home to internationally recognised research in Politics, International Relations, Philosophy and Global Religions. Our academics work both within and between disciplines, prizing both intellectual rigour and real-world impact. The Department has particular strengths in international relations and security, religion, values, and conflict, and applied philosophy.

Recent PPR graduates have pursued a range of careers in different sectors: from the civil service, diplomacy, journalism, and the charity sector, to financial services, marketing, and accounting. A PPR degree can help set you apart from other graduates on the job market.
