Name | Nick Hall |
Job Title | Head of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation |
Organisation | Save the Children UK |
Website | http://www.savethechildren.org.uk |
Nick Hall has been active in development and humanitarian work for 35 years and has concentrated on children’s rights for the past decade. He was a founder member of the Children in a Changing Climate coalition in 2006 when it became apparent that the international negotiations about climate change and about disasters were ignoring the needs and rights of children. Working of late with Save the Children and alongside the other main international child-centred agencies has given him the opportunity to campaign for formal recognition of children as important stakeholders in international and national policies. Thus the new global DRR agreement (the Sendai Framework for DRR) urges governments to include children in decision-making about disaster risk management.
Inspiration for this work has always been children themselves; their courage, clarity and can-do attitude, and their refusal to accept no as an answer.
In his current role Nick supports Save the Children’s international work helping colleagues in many countries to implement projects and programmes, and associated research that will help to protect children and get them involved in building a culture of safety.
