Professor Emeritus Merv Hyde AM is an educatorand specialist in child development. He held a number of senior positions at Griffith University Australia, including that of Chair of the University Academic Board and Foundation Head of the Schools of Education and Justice Administration.  At the University of the Sunshine Coast he was Foundation Director of the International Projects Group and Head of the School of Education.

He has worked in many countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, USA, Canada, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway in the development of inclusive education programs and associated research, particularly for children with a disability. He has been a leading consultant to Cambridge Education, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and various South-East Asian Governments on education reform to recognise children’s human rights and realise their education capacities, within established cultural alignments. He is a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to education and child development in Australia and Indonesia.

His recent work is most frequently in poor communities with significant challenges to the wellbeing and development of children and their families.  He is currently working on a large aid project he has secured for the Indonesian Province of Papua.  This project responds to his earlier research in a large demographic, social and cultural analysis as the basis for establishing a new approach to engagement among children, communities and schools with outcomes of increased resilience, enhanced capacity and self-determination among indigenous populations.
