Holly has worked for Red Cross in emergency management and recovery since completing her Master of Arts degree at the University of Canterbury in mid-2012. As a student during the series of earthquakes between 2010 and 2012, she participated in the grassroots response of many young residents to the need in Christchurch, joining initiatives like the Student Volunteer Army and Gapfiller.
Five years after the devastating earthquakes, New Zealand Red Cross continues to run the most extensive recovery programme in its history. Holly’s work has focused on developing and delivering recovery programmes for affected communities, including a range of psychosocial recovery resources for recovery workers, children and young people. New Zealand Red Cross resources for children and young people acknowledge their strengths in recovery and support them build resilience for tough times.
Currently based in Wellington, New Zealand, Holly leads Red Cross’ Recovery Lessons Learnt project, building upon the organisations work to create guidance materials and operational tools to support future recovery programming within New Zealand and globally. She works locally with community and recovery leaders, and collaborates with the International Federation of Red Cross Global Disaster Preparedness Centre, in Washington DC, and Psychosocial Reference Centre in Copenhagen.
